This is what I get for deciding to build my own bike. I think I’m all slick going to the bike shop and being like “oh yeah, I want a wheelbuild with the Formula 32-hole hubs and the Deep-Vs. Oh what was that sweet Sugino crankset you just pointed out? Run my credit card? Sure.” Nearly $600 later I find this site that offers fully color-customizable fixed/SS bikes for a whopping $349. They seem to use semi-good components. And they’re pretty. Configure it yourself. Buy it, ship it, assemble it. They only have one build and three frame sized (52cm, 54cm, and 59cm, with only the 59 shipping right now), so I guess this is what they call an economy of scale in action. In that, I will have to scale back my purchases to economy after I’m done with this bike, whereas I could have just bought one of these. Sure there’d be less credibility in it (I guess learning bike assembly is worth something), but geez. Tell that to my freaking wallet. Republic Bikes via aja
